Warming centers open

Several state facilities will be open from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. today and Sunday for anyone seeking refuge from the cold. The facilities include all tollway oases. Gov. Rod Blagojevich announced the move Friday and also lauded the federal decision to provide $29 million more in funds for the Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program. The average U.S. household will spend 11 percent, or $97, more to heat their home this season, according to the U.S. Energy Information Administration.
