Garage fire in South Elgin

A small dog died Wednesday morning during a garage fire at 1292 Jenna Drive in South Elgin. Fire crews arrived at the scene at 9:51 a.m. and spent five minutes extinguishing the blaze. Fire officials said a space heater placed near combustible material in the garage was likely to blame for the fire, which caused about $7,000 in damage.
