Small fire causes little problem at Chicago Board of Trade

A small fire in a closet at the Chicago Board of Trade caused few problems and trading began as scheduled.

CME Group spokeswoman Mary Haffenberg says the fire was discovered between 6:30 a.m. and 7 a.m. Thursday on the fifth floor.

She says it was quickly contained, and there were no injuries or evacuations.

The Board of Trade's financial room opened for trading at the normally scheduled time of 7:20 a.m.

Haffenberg says trading in the agriculture room is expected to start at 9:30 a.m. as usual.

Electrical problems stemming from the fire might prevent agriculture traders from seeing prices on a wall-mounted trading board.

But Haffenberg says traders can access prices using computers on the floor or handheld devices.
