Lenten journey at Elgin’s Holy Trinity to follow the disciple Peter

This Lent, Holy Trinity Lutheran Church in Elgin is focusing on the life and faith of Peter, one of Christ’s most famous disciples. Peter was both steadfast and unsteady, a dear friend and a betrayer, a follower and a wanderer. We can see ourselves in Peter. By following Peter’s life journey this Lent, we watch the story of Jesus through the eyes of a normal person who is trying to figure everything out — just like us!

In studying Peter’s faith journey, they will remember the lyrics from “Come Thou Fount.” It’s almost as if Peter himself wrote the lyrics to this song. As we follow Peter’s story, we will sing our way through Lent, binding our wandering hearts to God.

The path will include: Ash Wednesday at 2 p.m. Feb. 14; Wandering Heart — Wednesday Prayers at 10:30 a.m. at Holy Trinity, and 6:30 p.m. at Zion Lutheran, Feb. 21 to March 20), egg hunt and children’s Easter activities (10 a.m. March 23), Palm Weekend (5 p.m. March 23 and 9:30 a.m. March 24) Maundy Thursday Tea (2 p.m. March 28), Good Friday (2 p.m. March 29), Easter Vigil and Confirmation (5 p.m. Saturday, March 30), and the Easter Celebration (9:30 a.m. Sunday, March 31).

Worship is at 5 p.m. Saturdays and 9:30 a.m. Sundays. The church is located at 357 Division St. For information, visit holytrinityelgin.com or facebook.com/HolyTrinityElgin/.
