Chicago teen charged in Carpentersville robbery
A Chicago teen was accused Thursday of being part of an armed gang that robbed a Carpentersville jewelry store of $100,000 in cash and jewelry in September, police said.
Juan A. Estrada, 19, of 3010 S. Trumbull Ave., was charged with aggravated robbery, according to court records.
Estrada and six or seven others on Sept. 21 robbed Arturo's Joyeria in a small strip mall at Kings Road and Route 25, police said.
Police said they believe most of the robbers left the shopping center in a gray Honda with a temporary license plate.
Police could not trace the car any further.
Last Saturday, a break came when Chicago police arrested Estrada, who had been identified as a possible suspect in the armed robbery, police said.
Nothing taken in the robbery has been recovered and Estrada was the first person arrested in the case, Carpentersville police Cmdr. Michael Kilbourne said.
Estrada was held in the Kane County jail on $25,000 bond with a Feb. 1 court date at the Kane County Judicial Center.
