Naperville attorney to go to jail
A suspended Naperville divorce attorney soon will begin serving a 90-day stint in the DuPage County jail for stealing from his clients. Michael Marsh, 61, pleaded guilty Wednesday to five counts of misdemeanor theft for accepting retainer fees from potential clients while he was barred from doing legal work. DuPage Circuit Judge Kathryn Creswell also ordered Marsh, who no longer is practicing law, to serve two years' probation. His license was suspended in May 2004 for not doing legal work for which he was paid. Afterward, prosecutor Helen Kapas-Erdman said, he accepted up to $5,000 from each of his five clients despite being under suspension. Marsh also must pay restitution.
