Tithing is simply a matter of faith
I would like to add my two cents worth to Bob Meger's letter to Fence Post on Dec. 31. I regret I missed the Dec. 9 article on tithing that he mentions.
I admire Mr. Meger's courage and strength in battling his physical problems. I hope he is aware that God loves him as he has brought him through his life-threatening experiences.
What a shame his pastor was not more supportive instead of being indifferent to his plight concerning sacrificial giving.
Perhaps sharing our thoughts and beliefs may help him to better understand. The sharing of time, talent and treasure or sacrificial giving is simply having faith and putting your trust in God.
To every church, large or small, time and talent are vital and, of course, treasure is just as important.
Any parish needs the efforts and financial support in order to carry out their ministry.
We believe that each of us has a responsibility to share how much or how little we have with those less fortunate and in need. (Love your neighbor. Be your brother's keeper.) It has been our experience that the more we give, the more blessings seem to come our way.
It isn't an easy decision to give away to others when your own obligations are many, but you must have faith. You must trust in God. He will take car e of you. Your needs will be met. It's as simple as that.
