Get outdoors and help maintain forest preserve

Learn how you can become a volunteer with the Forest Preserve District of Kane County.

The district will host an open house from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at its Kane County Government Center in Geneva.

The public is invited to come and learn about the district and its volunteer opportunities. Options range from helping with environmental education programs and cultural preservation, to natural-area restoration and preserve monitoring.

Those who apply for a volunteer position at the open house are requested to attend a volunteer orientation at 6:30 p.m. Jan. 23.

The orientation is designed to help new volunteers become acclimated to the district, its mission, the volunteer program, and specifics of volunteer duties. Though the orientation is designed as training for new volunteers, those interested in signing up to volunteer are also welcome at the orientation.

Volunteering with the forest preserve district is a great way to give back to your community and get some exercise in a beautiful setting.
