Israel understands tragedy of abortion

Our Jewish brothers and sisters have experienced firsthand the evil that occurs when life is no longer considered sacred. When the value given life is conditional to the thinking of others.

As a 9-year-old, seeing the pictures of the Nazi holocaust indelibly imprinted on my mind, what happens when we put a price tag on human life. We see this here in America with the slaughter of innocent, defenseless, soon to be born children through abortion.

A poignant event occurred recently in Jerusalem showing how strongly the horror of the Nazi holocaust has affected thinking in Israel today. The Chief Rabbinic council has released a new opinion about abortion confirming "it constitutes a grave sin."

Chief Rabbi Yona Metzger points out that "abortion has dramatically slowed the Israeli birthrate compared to Palestinian neighbors."

We see this in America today where we no longer have enough workers to provide for Social Security needs of retirees and workers to fill the jobs of retiring baby boomers.

Pro-life members of U. S. Congress have met with members of the Israeli Knesset to help solve their problem. Rabbi Metzger has stated "the vast majority of abortions are unnecessary and strictly forbidden according to Halacha because they are carried out even when the pregnancies do not endanger the mother's health."

The Rabbinic Council of Chief Rabbinate is establishing a new committee to reduce abortion in Israel.

This great country has learned a lesson that somehow continues to plague America.
