Party tent cost $68,750
Illinois' big day at the Rose Bowl included a $68,750 bill for a big party in a big tent. A report from the state auditor general indicates the university rented the tent for a chancellor's reception before the New Year's Day game. The report says the university got the tent from the only company providing them in the Rose Bowl hospitality tent village. And it says the cost is considered "reasonable." University spokeswoman Robin Kaler said the cost was covered by donations rather than tax money or Rose Bowl revenue. Kaler said the money was well spent and said the party gave Illinois a chance to court more well-heeled donors at the big game.
