Naperville bridge's new roof is last phase in walkway project

A roofing crew is putting finishing touches on a project this week involving one of downtown Naperville's most recognizable features.

Workers from Lake Zurich-based All-American Exterior Solutions were out again Thursday installing a new roof on the Riverwalk's covered bridge at Webster Street.

This is the final phase of a $57,083 project that also included re-roofing a second bridge near Centennial Beach and the Eatery, Riverwalk Administrator Jan Erickson said Thursday.

The path's third covered bridge, near Fredenhagen Park on the east side of Washington Street, is relatively new and not in need of repairs, she said.

The Webster Street bridge, meanwhile, is 26 years old and the roof was showing signs of wear and tear. Work began shortly after the start of the new year and is scheduled for completion in the next day or so, Erickson said.

Crews began tackling the overall project shortly before Christmas and concentrated on getting the bridge near the Eatery completed before the New Year's Eve concert at the nearby Millennium Carillon.
