Park district should get your support
The St. Charles Park District is asking for our support by voting for the bond referendum Feb. 5. There are many reasons why I feel we should support this referendum, but I will only address the proposed Environmental Education Center.
Having taught the outdoor education classes for the park district, I know first hand that this center is needed. In the case of bad weather, we would have to cancel the classes, sometimes making it impossible for the students to attend due to rescheduling problems. If we had a building for the students to enter on these bad weather days, they would not be canceled.
Also, the equipment could be stored in the center, so it would not have to be transported daily from one side of town to another. The summer camps have the same problems, which could be eased by the center.
The EEC would also be an asset to our community in the added space for programs (new and old), educational displays, library, and promotion of "green" alternatives which could be used by our citizens.
Most of all, the EEC would be used to be a transition from indoors to outdoors. With the proposed access to trails and the beauty of Campton Hills Park as its background, people would be enticed to enter the outdoors. It would serve as a tool to help us support the national "Leave No Child Inside" Initiative.
I hope you will join me in supporting this referendum. We are so fortunate to have a park district that has been rated as one of the best in the nation. Let's show them our appreciation and expectation of continued excellence by voting yes for the referendum.
