Meeting to kick off Relay For Life event
For the 12th year, the Kane County Forest Preserve District will host the Relay For Life of Kane County.
The 2008 event will be June 27-28 at Philip B. Elfstrom Stadium in the Kane County Events Center.
The forest preserve district donates use of the facility, and district staff volunteer their time in advance of and during this event.
Help jumpstart this year's event at a kick-off meeting from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Eagle Brook Country Club in Geneva. Cancer survivors, caregivers and anyone interested in forming a team or volunteering are encouraged to attend.
The Relay for Life of Kane County is an overnight fundraising walk. Teams of eight to 12 participants gather with tents and sleeping bags to participate, celebrate survivors, remember loved ones and raise money for the fight against cancer.
Last year, the Relay For Life of Kane County raised $327,000. This year, the goal is $350,000.
