Antioch man charged with sexual assault

A 42-year-old Antioch man is in Lake County jail after authorities say he sexually assaulted a 5-year-old girl.

Brian S. Swanson is charged with one count of predatory criminal sexual assault of a child, a felony punishable by six to 30 years in prison.

He is being held on a $2 million bond pending his court date at 9 a.m. Wednesday.

Antioch police Cmdr. Jim Ruth said Swanson's home at 251 Maplewood Drive was searched Friday after the girl's family called police.

Ruth said the assault occurred Wednesday and was a one-time incident.

Ruth would not say how Swanson knew the girl, but said he isn't a member of her family.

Swanson had been registered as a child sex offender following a 1998 arrest in Kane County. Ruth said Swanson was compliant during his registration period, which expired in 2000.
