Police beat

• Police said an armed robbery took place in a cab about 10:30 p.m. Friday on Illinois Parkway and Van Nostrand Place in Elgin. The two suspects were men in their late teens and early 20s, police said. The suspects took $160 in cash from the cab driver's jacket pocket, exited the vehicle and fled on foot westbound on Van Nostrand Place.

• Kitchen appliances were stolen sometime over the New Year's holiday from a home being built on the 3500 block of Tournament Street. Kitchen appliances -- including a dishwasher, microwave, stovetop and built-in oven -- were removed from the home, as was copper plumbing.

• Alejandro Andrade of 390 Slade Ave., Elgin, was arrested Friday and charged with possession of cannabis, police said. Andrade was found with about 2.2 grams of cannabis in his car parked behind 269 Douglas Ave. on Friday evening, police said. Andrade was given a court date of Feb. 2 at Elgin Branch Court and released on his signature.
