Meeting to look at transition planning
At the next Special Kids, Special Families meeting, getting a high schooler with special needs through the college testing, selection and application process and the things that need to be considered by both the students and their families, will be addressed.
Speakers Terese Sullivan, special education transition counselor at Stevenson High School, and Mary Beth DeFauw, Northern Suburban Special Education District transition coordinator, will discuss "Transition Planning -- Life After High School." The talk will provide an opportunity for parents to learn about post-high school opportunities for their students and what they need to know to access them. Topics to be discussed include the options for students with special needs after high school, when to begin the planning process, and what role parents should have in the process.
The meeting will be held from 7 to 9 p.m. today, at Protected Tomorrows, 103 Schelter Road, Lincolnshire. Schelter Road is located south of Half Day Road between Stevenson High School and the Vernon Area Public Library. Protected Tomorrows is south of Route 22 on the east side of the street. There is no charge for the meeting.
