Comedy night to benefit Geneva Booster Club
Is your golf game laughable?
Commiserate with T.P. "The Golf Comic" Mulrooney Saturday at a show in Geneva to benefit the Geneva High School All-Sports Booster Club.
Mulrooney is donating his show, so all proceeds from the $20 tickets will go to the group, which provides equipment and programs for the school's athletes.
"It's something different that we've never done," said Pat Hofstetter, president of the group. Normally, the group has a corn boil in August, a trivia night in February and a silent auction in the spring. It also sells food at games, and spirit wear.
Hofstetter has been friends with Mulrooney, who lives in St. Charles, for about 12 years. He has appeared in a short film on Mulrooney's Web site, www.golfcomic.com (he's the caddy in "Prisoner Caddy.")
"Anybody who golfs gets his comedy," Hofstetter said, although Mulrooney also does some middle-aged observational bits too.
Tickets for the show, which is at 8:30 p.m., are $20.
And the boosters worked out deals with several local restaurants, where if you present your ticket you get a discount or special that night. Participants so far include Bistro Thai, Little Owl, Stockholm's, Sanfratello's, Tia Maria's, Orlando's Pizza, Urban Grille and Mike and Miguel's Cantina and Grill.
The show is in the high school auditorium.

The boosters recently completed building the Jerry Auchstetter Fitness Center, a weight training room. It bought goalposts for the football field last year, and also buys uniforms and other equipment. Typically, it spends $60,000 to $80,000 a year, Hofstetter said.
"We do all sports," Hofstetter said.
