Meadows debaters take first at tourney
The Rolling Meadows High School Mustangs debaters, coached by Tim Waters, captured first place of the 15 schools in the small school division during the Invitational Congressional Debate Tournament hosted by the school Saturday. Twenty-six schools participated in all, with a total of 325 debaters competing.
First place Speakers' Awards were presented to juniors Vlad Voskoboynikov and Ruth Tam, and seniors A.J. Fabianczyk and Kevin Pietrick. Senior Matt Flanagan won an award for second place Speaker.
In-dash stereo equipment stolen
Someone broke into five vehicles and removed in-dash stereo equipment between 5 and 8:30 p.m. Jan. 12. Three of the cars were parked near Arlington Heights Road and Algonquin Road. Two others were parked near Arlington Heights Road and Seegers Road. Entry was made by breaking the passenger window.

Annual prayer breakfast Feb. 7
The Mayor's 21st Annual Community Prayer Breakfast will be held at 7:15 a.m. Feb. 7, at the Sheraton Chicago Northwest, 3400 W. Euclid Ave., Arlington Heights.
Jon Ridler, outgoing executive director of the Arlington Heights Chamber of Commerce, will act as master of ceremonies for the event. The Rev. Sheri Rupert will give the invocation, and the presentation of colors by the Salute Inc. Mayor Arlene Mulder will deliver welcoming remarks and be followed by Joel Goldberg, reading from the Old Testament, and Dr. Tom and Pat Harris with a reading from the New Testament.
John Sonderegger will deliver the message focusing on "Celebrating our Heritage" as Americans, community members, and people of faith and diversity. The Prospect High School Madrigal Singers will entertain.

Hersey offers classes for parents
John Hersey High School will offer a parent education six-week course beginning in February to help sort out the issues of cliques, girl and boy friends, gossip, etc. Tuesdays from 7-9 p.m., Feb. 5-March 11 in room 129 at the school, 1900 E. Thomas Road. Other topics include conflict resolution, responsibility, negative peer pressure, academic success, teenage sexuality, drugs and violence.
