Harris' 38 points lead ECC to victory

Dundee-Crown graduate Ryan Harris scorched the nets for 38 points Thursday night as the Elgin Community College men's basketball team earned a 78-75 ISCC win over College of Lake County.

Harris hit five 3-pointers and was 11-for-12 at the free-throw line.

Trenton Thompson had 10 points and Corey Ray added 8 for ECC.

Softball

Perez to Judson: Bringing her class of 2009 to six players, Judson University softball coach Becky Bruns has signed Victoria Perez of St. Charles East and Shelby McGlasson of Coal City. These two athletes will become Eagles in the 2008-09 season and they join Virginia McAndrews, Ali Lukasek, Alyssa Cook, and Natalie Zalud.

Perez, a South Elgin resident, plays first base, pitches, and is an outfielder for the Saints. She is an Upstate Eight academic all-conference selection. She also plays for the Bartlett Silver Hawks summer team.

McGlasson was an all-area selection of the Morris Daily Herald last year. She helped the Coalers to a 17-7 record while pitching and playing first base.

Men's basketball

Judson 80, Purdue-Calumet 56: Moving to 3-0 in the CCAC and picking up their 10th win of the season, the Judson University men's team claimed a 24-point win over Purdue University-Calumet Wednesday night.

Each recording their third double-double of the season, Ilija Bojanic led Judson (10-6, 3-0) with 19 points and a career-high 14 rebounds while Justen Boyd had 12 points and Chris Oates added 11.

Women's basketball

Friestad named CCAC Player of the Week: For the fourth time this season, a Judson University women's basketball player has been named the CCAC Player of the Week. This time, it was Kelly Friestad for her play versus No. 15 Cardinal Stritch.

Friestad, a senior guard, scored a career-high 18 points against Cardinal Stritch in a 65-50 loss. She also tied a career-high for field goals made in a game (6) and had a career-high with three 3-pointers made and field goals attempted (12) and three-pointers attempted (6).

For the week, she averaged 9.5 points, 4.5 rebounds, 2.5 assists and 1.5 steals in a pair of losses for the Eagles. In a 68-42 setback to Park University (Mo.), she hauled in another five boards, to go along with three assists and two steals with one point.

Lake County 63, ECC 57: Karin Herrera and De'Larissa Morris scored 14 points each and Jessica Turnage added 13 for ECC in this ISCC loss. Ariana Topps also had 11 points for the Spartans.
