Meet local artists at Palatine bank

Meet local artists at the Palatine/Inverness Arts Council's next "First Saturday" reception, held from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday at Palatine Bank and Trust, 110 W. Palatine Road.

The program is designed to highlight artists each month by rotating works throughout various businesses.

February's monthlong exhibit will feature artist Brian Sauerland. Sauerland's work consists of still life, landscapes and portraits in pastel.

Learn all about chocolate at library

The Palatine Public Library, 700 N. North Court, hosts a chocolate seminar at 7 p.m. Feb. 5, just in time for Valentine's Day.

Featured will be chocolate-centric demonstrations, such as which is best to buy, where to get it and how to melt it.

Council on Aging offers tax help

The Barrington Area Council on Aging will offer the AARP Income Tax Assistance Program from Feb. 7 to April 10, by appointment only.

Trained AARP volunteers will assist seniors with taxes from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Thursdays and Fridays at the Council office, in the Prairieview Building of The Garlands of Barrington, 6000 Garlands Lane. Barrington Bank and Trust will provide tax assistance on Saturdays at 201 Hough St.
