Batavia's Wilson Street Bridge shuts down Monday and Tuesday
Batavia officials anticipate bridge closures early this week to pour concrete for the north half of the Wilson Street bridge.
Recent warm weather has speeded up the process, according to Randy Recklaus, assistant city administrator.
The bridge is scheduled to be closed from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday and from 4 a.m. 10 p.m. Tuesday.
The Monday closure will happen regardless of the weather because contractors will be installing heaters and tarps, Batavia's bridge liaison, Terry Heffron said.
On Tuesday, temperatures will need to be at least 30 degrees for the concrete deck to be poured, he said. If that doesn't happen Tuesday, contractors will use the first day that is warm enough.
"The main thing is to have it not too cold at the beginning, because as the concrete starts to cure it makes its own heat," he said.
Officials are hoping to have both sides of the bridge open in early February. Before that happens, there will need to be a weekend closure of the bridge to pour concrete in the gap between the two halves of the bridge.
And there will be an additional two-week closure in the spring for contractors to pour a final few inch thick "cap" of concrete over the entire bridge.
Information given to the Daily Herald last week regarding the dates for the project was incorrect.
Construction was not expected to be finished in March and the pouring of the north half of the bridge was not scheduled for February.
