Airport shouldn't be funded by taxes
I would like to know why residents of DuPage County pay taxes for the DuPage Airport. Someone can correct me if I am wrong, but I know of no commercial airlines that fly in and out of DPA, so there is no benefit to me to use it as a transportation option. Unless you or a friend own a private plane, you won't be utilizing these facilities, so why should you be taxed for it? This isn't a school or health facility that benefits the entire county, it is a place for businessmen and aviation enthusiasts to use.
If the airport is bringing in excessive amounts of business, great, but the businesses themselves should only be taxed for it and not the residents.
If it was sold off to a private agency or if the land could be used for development, it would help toward balancing the county budget and homeowners would not be taxed on an entity that is used by an extremely small percentage of residents. There are 2,800-plus acres (about two-thirds the size of Glen Ellyn) of potential land that could be developed to benefit all of DuPage County not just a select few.
With impending deficit problems and school cuts out in front of us, why not use the sale or development of the DuPage Airport as a means to help offset the financial tax burden that we are hit with year after year?
