Tyler Hansbrough scored 27 points and made a crucial block in the closing seconds as the top-ranked Tar Heels held on for an 83-82 victory over stubborn Georgia Tech on Wednesday night.
Danny Green put North Carolina (18-0, 3-0 Atlantic Coast Conference) ahead by making 1 of 2 free throws with 22 seconds remaining.
Georgia Tech (7-9, 0-3) had a chance to pull off a monumental upset, but Zack Peacock's shot was blocked by Hansbrough. Peacock retrieved the loose ball and got off a jumper that rimmed out, allowing North Carolina to escape.
Memphis 77, Rice 50: Chris Douglas-Roberts and Doneal Mack both scored 16 points and Joey Dorsey had nine points and 14 rebounds to lead No. 2 Memphis (16-0, 3-0 Conference USA) to a rout of host Rice (3-13, 0-3).
Illinois St. 72, Wichita St. 51: Osiris Eldridge had 21 points to lead Illinois State (14-3, 6-0 Missouri Valley) over visiting Wichita State (8-9, 1-5).
The Redbirds led by as many as 25 points in the second half.
Drake 69, Bradley 68: Adam Emmenecker scored a layup with seconds left in the game to give visiting Drake (15-1, 6-0) a Missouri Valley victory over Bradley (8-10, 1-5).
E. Michigan 65, N. Illinois 61: Jarred Axon had a game-high 23 points, including seven 3-pointers, to lead visiting Eastern Michigan (6-9) Mid-American Conference win over Northern Illinois (4-11).
Duke 70, Florida St. 57: Jon Scheyer scored 21 points, and visiting Duke (14-1, 2-0 Atlantic Coast Conference made 8 straight free throws in the final 1:34 to snap a two-game losing streak to Florida State (12-6, 1-2).
UMass 82, Dayton 71: Ricky Harris scored 22 , and Chris Lowe added 19 as visiting Massachusetts snapped No. 14 Dayton's 13-game winning streak.
The Minuteman (12-4, 1-1 Atlantic 10) finished with 13 3-pointers and 6 blocked shots.
Brian Roberts had 21 points for the Flyers (14-2, 2-1), who were 4 of 25 from 3-point range.
Mississippi 89, Florida 87: Dwayne Curtis had 20 points and 12 rebounds, and freshman Trevor Gaskins scored 19 points for No. 18 Mississippi (15-1, 2-1 Southeastern Conference), which defeated visiting Florida (15-3, 2-1).
Temple 78, Xavier 59: Dionte Christmas scored 19 of his 23 points in the second half and Mark Tyndale added 22 to lead host Temple (7-8, 1-1 Atlantic 10) over No. 20 Xavier (14-4, 2-1).

Notre Dame 69, Villanova 58: Ashley Barlow scored 16 points, and Devereaux Peters had a career-high 15 points and 7 steals to help No. 17 Notre Dame (14-3, 2-1) beat visiting Villanova (11-6, 1-3) in the Big East.
