Teen shot by off-duty cop

A Chicago teenager accused of brining a gun to a high school is in stable condition at a local hospital after being shot by an off-duty police officer on Tuesday. Chicago Public Schools spokesman Mike Vaughn said the 16-year-old, a student suspended from Phillips High School Academy, went through a metal detector and triggered an alarm. A security officer patted down the youth and discovered a gun, authorities said. Vaughn said the boy fled and two officers who work at the school chased the boy, who still had the gun. The off-duty officer shot the teen soon after near a CTA elevated train station. Authorities said whether the teen pulled out the gun or pointed it at the officer was being investigated by the Independent Police Review Authority.
