Authorities identify motorist who died in fatal crash
Bensenville police are investigating a traffic accident that killed a 28-year-old Schiller Park man.
Andon Atansov Yankulov died from injuries he suffered during a Wednesday afternoon crash at the intersection of York Road and Wood Street, officials said.
The Cook County medical examiner's office Thursday released Yankulov's name, after his next of kin was notified.
Yankulov was driving a 1994 Toyota Corolla east on Wood about 2:05 p.m. Wednesday when the accident occurred.
Once he reached the intersection of Wood and York, Yankulov attempted to make a left turn, according to written statement prepared by Bensenville police.
While making the turn onto northbound York, Yankulov's car was struck by a 2006 Jeep Grand Cherokee, which was traveling south on York, officials said. The Corolla ended up on the parkway along York, south of Wood.
Yankulov was transported to Loyola University Medical Center in Maywood, where he later died from injuries sustained in the crash, officials said.
A passenger in the Corolla was transported to Elmhurst Hospital. Village officials didn't have information about his injuries.
The driver of the jeep was transported to Alexian Brothers Medical Center in Elk Grove Village with minor injuries, authorities said.
As of Thursday afternoon, no tickets have been issued in connection with the crash.
York was closed between Wood and Pine Avenue for about 90 minutes following the crash.
