Aurora man dies after fight with roommate
Aurora police are investigating an altercation between two roommates that left one man dead at a nursing home specializing in mental health care.
Lt. Paul Nelson said police have interviewed the surviving roommate, but no charges have been filed. The unidentified man is being treated at Provena Mercy Hospital's behavioral health center in Aurora.
Police are waiting for the results from an autopsy scheduled for Saturday to determine how they will proceed, he said. The Kane County coroner's office is handling the autopsy.
Nelson said the roommates where both men in their mid-50s.
Police were called to the Fox River Pavilion at 400 E. New York St. about 5:30 p.m. Thursday, Nelson said. The victim was unresponsive when police arrived.
"My understanding is it was pretty clear there was an altercation between the two," he said.
The victim was pronounced dead at Provena Mercy at 6:14 p.m.
According to the Illinois Department of Public Health's listing for the facility where the fight occurred, Fox River Pavilion is a skilled nursing care facility specializing in treatment of mental illnesses for younger and middle-age adults.
