Sanctions sought for lawyer in student threat case
EDWARDSVILLE -- Madison County prosecutors want a judge to sanction the Chicago lawyer who represents a former Southern Illinois University student accused of threatening a "murderous rampage."
Attorney Jeffrey Urdangen represents 24-year-old Olutosin Oduwole (oh-loo-TOE'-sihn oh-DOO'-wawl-ee).
Oduwole was charged in 2007 after police found a note in his car vowing violence similar to the Virginia Tech shootings unless he was paid $50,000.
Prosecutors allege Urdangen falsely stated during a November hearing that his client's former attorneys sent him an altered copy of the note. The new copy includes an additional line that could support the defense's claim the note contained song lyrics, not a threat.
Urdangen says including the altered note was an innocent mistake and not intentional wrongdoing.
