Man accused of slashing woman to death
CAHOKIA -- A southwestern Illinois man is jailed on $1 million bond on charges that accuse him of fatally slashing his 18-year-old girlfriend's throat when she tried to break up with him.
St. Clair County prosecutors charged 19-year-old Kyle Starks of Cahokia on Tuesday with first-degree murder.
Authorities believe that Tyra Whittaker went to the home Starks shares with his parents Sunday and was going to end her relationship with him when Starks used a razor knife to slash her throat.
Whittaker bled to death.
Starks couldn't be reached for comment Wednesday. He doesn't have a listed home telephone number, and it isn't immediately clear if he has an attorney.
