Wolves to wear new jerseys honoring police, firefighters

The Chicago Wolves will wear commemorative jerseys to honor Chicago's police and firefighting forces at their home games this Saturday and on Jan. 9 and Jan. 17.

In addition, the Wolves will host a used cell-phone drive to benefit victims of domestic violence at the games.

The specialty jerseys , which were designed by the Wolves organization and presented by Chase, will be available in a silent auction throughout the games. Proceeds from the auction will benefit Wolves Charities as well as police- and firefighting-related charities including the 100 Club of Cook County, Illinois Fire Safety Alliance's Camp I Am Me, and the Chicago Police Memorial Foundation.

The cell phones that are collected throughout the drive, as well as any prepaid phone cards, will be donated to people in high-risk domestic violence situations in conjunction with Connections For Abused Women and Their Children, formerly Chicago Abused Women Coalition, Chicago's oldest program for victims of domestic violence. Any fan who brings in a cell phone or phone card during the three-game drive will be entered into a drawing for a $50 gift certificate to the Wolves store.

"We thought this drive would be a natural tie-in with the great charities we are supporting through our police and fire jersey auction and raffle," said Wolves vice president of operations Courtney Mahoney. "Beyond the auction, four commemorative jerseys will be raffled: defensemen Arturs Kulda and Brian Sipotz, assistant coach Ron Wilson, and and the Wolves mascot, Skates. Raffle tickets can be purchased for $5 each or five for $20, and the winners will be selected at the end of the game on Jan. 10.
