Teen killed in rollover wreck blamed on deer
MILLSTADT-- Authorities say a deer was the cause of a rollover accident in southwestern Illinois in which a teenager was killed.
St. Clair County sheriff's Capt. Steve Johnson says 16-year-old Christopher Akers died Wednesday night at a St. Louis hospital after the wreck in his hometown of Millstadt.
Johnson says the car in which Akers was riding was cresting a hill when the 16-year-old driver swerved to avoid a deer on the road. The car left the road, rolled over and caught fire.
Authorities say two witnesses managed to pull Akers out of the burning wreck.
The driver and another passenger who is 17 were both taken to a hospital. Their medical statuses were not immediately clear.
