School safe stolen in St. Charles
A St. Charles school for students with special education needs apparently was burglarized over the weekend, police said.
A neighbor walking his dog Sunday noticed a window at the Mades-Johnstone Center School, 1304 Ronzheimer Avenue, was shattered. Police responded and determined a small safe was stolen from a school office. No other items were missing.
The safe contained a "small amount" of money, said police, declining to release the specific amount missing. The safe is described as beige in color, standing 24 inches by 24 inches, and having a combination lock with a digital display screen.
Police believe the burglary occurred between early Saturday and 4 p.m. Sunday, when the broken window was discovered.
Police are asking anyone with information about the burglary or missing safe to call (630) 377-4435. A cash reward is being offered for information that leads to the arrest of the person or people involved.
