Aurora police waiting for toxicology reports in nursing home death
Aurora police have to wait for results of drug toxicology tests to figure out what caused the death Thursday of nursing home resident Randall A. Moons.
At an autopsy conducted Saturday by the Kane County Coroner's office, "the victim was found to have no signs of injuries that would explain his death at this time," according to a prepared statement from police.
Police were called about 5:30 p.m. Thursday afternoon to the Fox River Pavilion at 400 E. New York St. to aid Aurora Fire Department paramedics treating Moons and another person who had gotten into an altercation. Moons was unresponsive when they arrived.
Both were taken to Provena Mercy Medical Center, where Moons died.
Aurora investigator Sgt. Rob Wallers said there were no outward signs of injury, such as head trauma or wounds.
Police said they questioned the man's 55-year-old roommate, the other person involved in the dispute.
They are waiting to see if the toxicology results can help determine a cause of death before determining whether criminal charges are warranted.
It could take up to four weeks to receive the results, police say.
