Round Lake man charged with spraying graffiti on 16 buildings
A 19-year-old Round Lake man has been charged with spray painting graffiti on 16 buildings on the north side of Libertyville, police officials said.
Jorge Arteaga was arrested on Nov. 30 after a patrol officer spotted him with several other individuals spraying a building at the corner of Church Street and Milwaukee Avenue, said Libertyville Deputy Police Chief Bob Koval.
He said the group of teens scattered when officers pulled up. Arteaga was chased on foot and nabbed about two blocks away from the incident.
He admitted to defacing 16 buildings in the area of Milwaukee Avenue and Peterson Road, Koval said.
"This wasn't little graffiti marks they were spraying," he said. "It was large. Some were 10 feet by 10 feet, or in that approximate size."
Arteaga was charged with felony criminal defacement of property, and bond was set at $5,000, according to the Lake County State's Attorney's Office.
He remanded to the Lake County jail, Koval said.
He added police are still investigating to determine the identities of the teens who eluded police.
