McHenry Co. man charged with swapping urine in drug test
For the third time in as many months, McHenry County authorities have nabbed someone sneaking another's urine into the county courthouse and trying to pass it off as their own for a court-ordered drug test.
The latest to be caught, sheriff's police said, is Christopher L. Green, 21, of Wonder Lake, who for the failed effort now faces felony charges of obstructing justice and defrauding a drug and alcohol screening test.
"People just think they can fool the system," sheriff's Sgt. Michael Cisner said. "They're going to get caught, they're going to be prosecuted and they're going to make a bad situation worse for themselves."
Green was arrested Wednesday after reporting to the county's probation department and being asked to take a drug test, as required under the terms of his bond on another case. While taking the test, sheriff's police said, Green pulled out a bottle of someone else's urine that he had taped to his leg and smuggled into the courthouse.
The drug test was among the conditions of Green's pretrial release while he awaits trial on an aggravated battery charge filed after a March incident in which he's accused of hitting a man with a beer can and punching him in the face.
The arrest comes about two months after Justin Head, 18, of Island Lake, was charged with smuggling a condom containing someone else's urine into the courthouse for a drug test. The case against him is pending.
Also in October, Heather Derer, 36, of McHenry, was sentenced to 18 months in prison after she admitted sneaking a condom containing the urine of a friend's young son into the McHenry County's probation department on Sept. 9.
Green, who remains in custody at the county jail on a $25,000 bond, could face one to three years in prison if found guilty.
