The Fox Valley's year in photos

Examine our photo journalists' choices for their favorite images of the year and you get an idea about the power of a still photograph.

The truth, of course, is that each picture can be described with just one word.

Joy. Sadness. Pride. Dejection. Silence. Solitude.

Look closer, though, and you'll discover the many layers to each image and the truth behind the old saying that a picture is worth a thousand words.

Look even closer and you'll realize another cliché is also true: Every picture really does tell a story.
