Hawthorn Woods tree lighting

At 6 p.m. Friday, Dec. 4, Hawthorn Woods Mayor Joseph Mancino, the village board of trustees, village staff and residents will light the village tree during a performance by the Stevenson High School Caroling Choir. Following the lighting, Santa Claus will arrive on the fire truck and visit with children in the barn. Hot cocoa and cookies will be served. Children can also make an ornament to take home. New, unwrapped toys will be collected for the Marine Corps Toys For Tots drive. The event takes place at Hawthorn Woods Village Hall Barn, 2 Lagoon Drive. Breakfast with Santa

Santa will have breakfast with boys and girls from 8 to 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, Dec. 5, at Max & Erma's restaurant, 20506 N. Rand Road, in the Deer Park Town Center. Breakfast, holiday music and a visit with Santa is sponsored by the restaurant, the village and the Kildeer. A $5 donation per adult is requested. Children 12 and under eat free. Supplies will be provided for children to create a holiday card to another child in need and letters to Santa. Call (847) 550-6484 for reservations. Proceeds will benefit the WINGS organization, which helps homeless and abused women and children with shelter, education, guidance and support.

Volunteer in Antioch

The village of Antioch's Parks and Recreation Special Events Department is looking for volunteers who can help with events throughout the year. The department is seeking 100 people who can work at least two events for a couple of hours each.
