Hostage situation in Geneseo

GENESEO -- Police in the northwestern Illinois community of Geneseo are outside an apartment building after a gunman took one person hostage.

Geneseo police are providing few details, but they say the incident that was first reported before 5 a.m. Friday involves a man in a downtown apartment building.

Police have evacuated some of the downtown area closest to the building and are continuing to tell people to avoid that area.

Local TV stations have reported that parents of school children received automated calls Friday morning, telling them to avoid traveling to the downtown area.
