Hoffman Estates man denies raping Elgin girl

A Hoffman Estates man pleaded not guilty Wednesday to charges he raped an Elgin girl younger than 9 about five years ago.

Jesus A. Julio, 23, of the 2000 block of Greenfield Road, was arraigned in Kane County Circuit Court on two counts of predatory criminal sexual assault and one count of aggravated criminal sexual abuse of a child.

He could be sentenced to up to 30 years in prison and a $25,000 fine if convicted of the most serious offense, Judge Thomas E. Mueller said.

Julio was arrested in October after the allegations surfaced. He is accused of sexually assaulting the victim, an acquaintance, at her home in Elgin in 2004. Authorities have not released additional details.

Julio, who appeared to have no prior criminal history in Kane County, remains in the county jail with bond set at $500,000. His next court date is Jan. 8.
