Campton Hills names new police chief

A retired Aurora police commander is Campton Hills' new police chief after a special meeting of the village board Friday evening.

The village board selected Daniel Hoffman to replace its inaugural police chief, Greg Anderson, who resigned in November to take a job in Oak Forest.

Hoffman spent his entire career with the Aurora Police Department. He began as a patrol officer and school resource officer in 1979. Hoffman became a sergeant in 1990 with duties of overseeing patrol operations and an investigate bureau. Hoffman retired as a commander in July.

For the past six months, Hoffman has served as the president of the Aurora Police Pension Fund. He is also a board member of Hesed House, a homeless shelter in Aurora.

When he assumes his Campton Hills duties, Hoffman will oversee a department of six full-time and eight part-time officers.

"Rarely do you find a person with the combined capabilities in management, interpersonal communications and field experience that Dan brings to the organization," Village President Patsy Smith in a written statement.
