Lombard plans for census
Six Lombard residents have been named to an ad-hoc committee of the village board that will develop and implement a census awareness campaign. Appointed by Village President William Mueller, committee members are Raymond Mazzolini, Marilyn Meo, Robert Friend, Vernon Hammerschmidt, Stephen Zook and John Mrofcza. The committee will be headed by Trustee Laura Fitzpatrick with assistance from Joelyn Kott, the village's communications coordinator. Any resident who would like to join is asked to call Kott at (630) 620-5718. The group will meet for the first time late this month.
Naperville rededicates cannon
Naperville plans to rededicate a Civil War cannon at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday in Central Park, 104 E. Benton Ave. The cannon was removed for cleaning and restoration over the summer as part of a larger project to conserve four monuments in the park. The 954-pound iron weapon was manufactured in Georgia in 1861-62. It found its way to Naperville in 1871. For details, visit www.naperville.il.us.
Naperville looks at Ogden
Naperville residents can get an early peek at proposed streetscape alternatives for Ogden Avenue during an open house from 6:30 to 8 p.m. today at Naperville city hall, 400 S. Eagle St. A brief presentation on the proposed improvements is slated for 7 p.m. City staff members have worked for six months with a consultant and members of the Ogden Avenue Oversight Advisory Committee to develop proposed improvements from Washington Street to Naper Boulevard. Pastor, author speaks at AU
"Why should we bother with church history" will be the topic when Rev. Jonathan Dean, assistant pastor of Downers Grove United Methodist Church, speaks at 10 a.m. Nov. 14 at Aurora University's Eckhart Hall, 347 S.
