Run before you eat at Turkey 4-Mile race

The Fox River Trail Runners and Batavia Accelerators are hosting the 13th annual Fox and Turkey 4-Mile and Youth Mile Race on Thursday, Nov. 26. The Youth Mile starts at 8:30 a.m., and the Four Miler at 9 a.m. Neither race is a predictor race.

The race headquarters is River West Family Fitness, 108 First St. in downtown Batavia. Online registration is available at www.signmeup.com/66353 until Tuesday, Nov. 24. Race-day registration will be from 7 to 8 a.m. at River West. Further race information can be gathered at foxrivertrailrunners.org. A long-sleeved shirt is included in both race entries. The shirts are guaranteed for preregistered runners. Shirts are available for race-day registrants until supplies last.

Race fees for the 4-mile are $20 by Nov. 24 and $25 on race day. The Youth Mile fees are $12 by Nov. 24 and $15 on race day. Fox River Trail Runners and Batavia Accelerator members who register in advance receive a $5 discount.

The Fox and Turkey races are a Thanksgiving season tradition. The races are run along the scenic west side of the Fox River south from River West. The course can be viewed at: www.usatf.org/routes/view.asp?rID687. The youth mile uses the first half-mile of the four-mile course.

Run like a fox and win a turkey for Thanksgiving! This is a food drive event to benefit the Batavia Interfaith Food Pantry. Runners and spectators are encouraged to bring a nonperishable food item to donate to the food pantry.

The four miler awards are two dozen frozen turkeys randomly awarded to finishers. Awards for the overall male and female winners, and the top three male and female in 13 age groups from 0-14 to 70 and older.

Awards for the Youth Mile for ages 12 and younger are six frozen mini-turkeys randomly awarded to finishers. Awards to the top three male and female winners in three age categories: 0-7, 8-9 and 10-12. Award ribbons will go to all finishers.
