Antioch man gets prison for breaking into downtown stores
An Antioch man was sentenced to five years in prison Tuesday for breaking into a pair of downtown stores.
Nathan Roed, 26, of the 400 block of Maplewood Drive, was arrested May 28 after a witness saw him trying to break into a candy store.
Lake County Assistant State's Attorney Marykay Foy said a man walking his dog around 12:15 a.m. saw Roed beating on the door to the Something Sweet candy store at 891 Main St.
Roed fled when police arrived, but the witness saw him again and directed police to him.
After Roed was arrested, it was discovered he had also broken into Flo's Hair Care at 945 Main St. and the Cigarette Depot at 391 Lake St. and took a small amount of money and some lottery tickets.
Roed pleaded guilty to burglary and could have been sentenced to up to seven years in prison.
