Homeless man cited:

Naperville police on Tuesday served Scott Huber with a complaint for violating a new ordinance prohibiting storage of personal property on a public sidewalk. He has been living on the city's streets for the past eight years and says he is protesting the way government has treated him. On Tuesday, Huber was given a summons to appear in court on Dec. 17. He faces a fine of $50 for the first or second offenses within a 12-month period and a $100 fine for third or subsequent offenses during that time. Police gave him a warning on Monday. If he does not remove his property within seven days of the warning, the city will remove it.

Police seek source of threat:

Naperville police are looking for information related to a threatening note found last month at Naperville Central High School. The school went on a soft lockdown on Oct. 30 after the note was discovered outside a classroom. Crime Stoppers is offering a reward of up to $1,000 for information leading to an arrest. Anyone with information is asked to call (630) 420-6006. Callers may remain anonymous.

Residential burglary arrest:

A 27-year-old man is facing residential burglary charges after two people discovered he had entered a home in unincorporated Lombard. According to a news release from the DuPage County Sheriff's Office, Tristan R. Klein was confronted by both individuals about 4 p.m. Monday while he was inside a home on the 21W400 block of Park Avenue. Klein, who police say is homeless, was being held at the DuPage County jail on $150,000 bond.

Bookshop owner wins awards:

Becky Anderson Wilkins, co-owner of Anderson's Bookshops in Naperville and Downers Grove, has won the Voice of the Heartland Award from the Great Lakes Independent Booksellers Association. The group cited Anderson for her active leadership in industry groups, including her role as vice president of the American Booksellers Association and past president of the Association of Booksellers for Children. Wilkins also is one of seven winners of the National Council of Teachers of English/Support for the Learning and Teaching of English Affiliate Intellectual Freedom Award.

Nonprofit receives check:

Rebuilding Together Aurora - a nonprofit organization that provides free home repairs for senior citizens, individuals with disabilities and low-income residents residing in owner-occupied homes in Aurora - has received a $9,300 check from Comcast. The check will be used for home repair projects during the next rebuilding blitz in April 2010. During this past April's rebuilding event, more than 400 Comcast volunteers helped make repairs to more than 25 homes in the Aurora area.

Award nominations wanted:

Aurora's Hispanic Heritage Advisory Board is seeking nominations through Dec. 4, of adults 18 and older to receive the Peter J. Perez Award. The award, named after a late Aurora resident who was born into a boxcar community of Mexican railroad workers and spent a career in law enforcement, is given to a person who exemplifies leadership and commitment to the Aurora Hispanic community. Nominees must volunteer within the Aurora Hispanic community, demonstrate dedication to the Aurora community, serve as a positive role model to youth and others, and make a difference through his or her involvement. The winner will be recognized during a community breakfast on Jan. 28, 2010. Letters of nomination may be mailed to the Mayor's Office of Special Events, 5 E.
