Pedestrian still hospitalized after weekend crash in Batavia
An Aurora man remained hospitalized Tuesday after he was injured Saturday night while walking across Randall Road at Wilson Street in Batavia.
Frank Gonzales Jr., 51, and another person were pushing bicycles across from the southwest to the southeast corner around 7:09 p.m. The first person made it safely to the curb. But when Gonzales was crossing the northbound lanes, he was hit by a Nissan Altima.
Gonzales was treated at Delnor Hospital in Geneva, then flown to Loyola University Medical Center in Maywood, which is a Level 1 trauma center. An update on his condition was not immediately available Tuesday evening.
The driver, Logan Brandt, 19, of the 300 block of Commonwealth, Aurora, was given a ticket for disobeying a traffic control device, according to police.
Randall Road is a county highway, with two through lanes of traffic in each direction, and left-turn bays.
The uninjured pedestrian told police that the pair had a "walk" signal. There is a crosswalk. Police Cmdr. Gregory Thrun said that pedestrians have the right to finish crossing when the signal changes to "don't walk."
Batavia police ask anyone with additional information to call (630) 454-2500.
