Briefs: Route 45 work coming

An $11 million project to improve Route 45 in Grayslake is scheduled to be announced Wednesday. Illinois Department of Transportation Secretary Milton Sees will join state Sen. Michael Bond in outlining a project to add two lanes in each direction and a turn lane at various intersections of Route 45 from Route 137 to Route 120. A raised barrier median and updates to traffic signals are included in the project. Bond said the route, which carries about 20,000 vehicles per day is incapable of handling the traffic. The work is scheduled to begin next fall and be completed in 2010, weather permitting.

Still behind bars

Jordan S. Kelly, 22, of 1527 North Ave., Round Lake Beach, remained in the Lake County jail Monday one week after he was charged with aggravated criminal sexual abuse. Round Lake Beach Deputy Police Chief Rich Chiarello said Kelly was charged after having sex with a 14-year-old girl on or about Dec. 1. Chiarello said a 17-year-old girl told her mother about Kelly's activity with the victim. The mother then notified police, he said. Kelly is held in jail in lieu of a $50,000 bond.

Ex-employee held in disturbance

Lincolnshire police charged a 22-year-old Hawthorn Woods man with several offenses after a Dec. 5 incident in front of the restaurant where he used to work. Police said Ryan Davis, of 62 Darlington Court, was fired when his employer decided he had reported for work under the influence of alcohol. Davis walked outside the restaurant in the 200 block of Parkway Drive and encountered two girls police said were ages 13 to 14. Davis grabbed the girls and began threatening and kissing them until people in the area reacted to their screams and pulled Davis away. He was charged with aggravated battery, unlawful restraint, criminal trespass to land and disorderly conduct. At a bond hearing that day, Associate Judge David Brodsky ordered Davis held on $30,000 bond and scheduled a Dec. 10 court appearance. Lake County Assistant State's Attorney Stephen Scheller said Davis faces up to five years in prison if convicted, but would also be eligible for probation.
