Hampshire man charged in bogus child abuse report

A Hampshire man was charged Tuesday with falsely reporting child abuse.

Robert E. Von Bergen, 42, of the 400 block of Fieldstone Lane, faces three counts of filing a false child abuse report, a Class 4 felony punishable by up to three years in prison, Kane County court records show.

According to the charges, the report was filed July 9 in Hampshire. Police did not respond to calls for further information, and it appeared Von Bergen had not yet been arrested as of Tuesday afternoon.

Von Bergen has no prior felony convictions in Kane County, according to court records. But misdemeanor assault and disorderly conduct charges filed against him in February are pending in another case.

Von Bergen's attorney in the misdemeanor case could not immediately be reached for comment.
