1 critically injured in Sugar Grove crash

Sugar Grove police are looking for witnesses to a rollover crash late Sunday that left a Dixon man critically injured.

Bert Lee Olson, 37, of the 300 block of North Ottawa Avenue, was found about 100 feet from his 2001 Dodge Ram at 11 p.m., after a passing motorist spotted his pickup on the north side of Route 56, east of Route 47, police said.

Olson was taken to an Aurora hospital, then flown to Good Samaritan Hospital in Downers Grove, where he was listed in critical but stable condition Monday.

"I hope somebody saw something," Sugar Grove Investigator John Sizer said. "At this point, we've got no witnesses, so we're still scratching our heads, trying to figure out what happened."

Sizer said there was no indication alcohol played a role, but police are requesting toxicology reports nonetheless. He said Olson, who did not appear to be wearing a seat belt, was ejected as the vehicle rolled "more than once" before coming to rest in a grassy area adjacent to a corn field. There were no other passengers.
