Prison on lockdown after assault
GALESBURG -- An assault at the Henry Hill Correctional Center is resulting in a lockdown at the Illinois Department of Corrections facility.
Department of Corrections spokesperson Januari Smith says an inmate assaulted a male employee at the medium security prison near Galesburg on Tuesday. Neither individual was identified.
Smith says the employee was taken to a hospital for treatment and has since been released.
An internal investigation is under way and Smith says the inmates are in a "Level 1" lockdown. That means inmates are in their cells 24 hours a day. Smith says the lockdown will be in effect until the probe is complete.
Henry Hill's population averages 1,801 male inmates.
