Microsoft to buy assets of SourceGear

Microsoft Corp. said it will buy assets of SourceGear LLC, an Champaign-based maker of programming tools for software development, to add functions to its Visual Studio applications.

Terms weren't disclosed in a statement released today. Microsoft, the world's largest software maker, will acquire Teamprise, a SourceGear unit that has focused on creating products for Microsoft's Visual Studio Team Foundation Server.

The Teamprise technology enables software development on multiple operating systems, including Unix, Linux and Mac OS X, Microsoft said. The programs will be integrated into the 2010 version of Visual studio, the company said in the release.

Microsoft, based in Redmond, Washington, rose 47 cents to $28.99 at 4 p.m. New York time in Nasdaq Stock Market trading. The shares have climbed 49 percent this year.
