Closure of branch post office unwise

I read the Oct. 31 Daily Herald article citing "possible" closure plans for the USPS east-side branch in Algonquin. It was noted in your article that "postal officials sent a letter explaining the situation to its customers in Algonquin." That is news to me. Our household did not receive such a notification.

You are kidding yourselves if you think that this is going to be a "decision." The decision has been made. The USPS has forgotten that part of their name is "service" and will now abandon those of us who live east of the river. These attempts to solicit comments is nothing but smoke and mirrors.

Also, your article diminishes the significance of the volume of mail that is handled by this branch. Your article states "150 transactions per day." However, you fail to mention the volume of those transactions. As an Internet retailer, I bring in anywhere from 10 to 40 items to be shipped each business day.

I seem to remember other government things that were going to be "temporary" such as the income tax and tolls on the tollway. Guess some ideas just are more important than others.
